The 1FZ-FE engine was used in the 80-Series Land Cruiser and Lexus LX450 in the North American market and used in the Land Cruiser 200-Series & 70-Series in other markets.

The 1FZ-FE produced for the North American market was equipped with electronic fuel injection (EFI) and used two different air metering systems depending on model year. There were no carbureted 1FZ engines sold in the U.S. The 1993-94 1FZ-FE used a Bosch type flapper vane air flow meter (AFM) and the 1995-97 used a heated wire mass airflow meter (MAF).
