EARLY vs LATER Rigs

Transmission Spacer

  • Transmission spacer added 4/85 FJ60's
  • They also changed the Drive Line Flages at the same time (both ends). A Transmission with the spacer ('84 and earlier) Does *not* match the '85 and later. The front drive line on the '84 and earlier has a CV joint, and the later models does not have this joint.
  • This is approximately when the H55 was introduced to the rest of the world.
  • The spacer made the H42 just as long as the H55, which forced a change of the transmission cross member position in the frame
  • TRANSLATES TO: H55 is a direct bolt in for 4/85-87 FJ60's

Transfer Case

  • Transfer case changed in early '86 to accommodate a larger idler shaft
  • Early idler shaft is 34mm, later is 38mm
